Apply for grant to report maternal health stories

DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 18, 2020 ― Maternal Figures is offering support to journalists covering maternal health in Nigeria.

Maternal Figures hosts webinars on how to use the database and reporting on maternal health from a solutions journalism perspective, provide editorial and research support, as well as travel and reporting grants for journalists working on maternal health stories.

Applications for reporting grants are accepted on a rolling basis, and grants will be issued every quarter.

The programme, supported by Brown Institute for Media Innovation provides grant for two journalists every quarter with a stipend to cover a maternal health story.

In order to eligible to apply for the reporting grants, journalists must attend one Maternal Figures webinar on using the database and reporting on maternal health from a solutions journalism perspective.

Applications are considered on a rolling basis for the October – December 2020 Quarter.

Deadline for application is Friday, September 18, 2020. Applicants are expected to submit a pitch for their story using the application form while including a letter or email from an editor of a publication who is interested in publishing the story.

The applications will be reviewed and the decision will be made on Friday, September 25, 2020. Pitch submitted will be reviewed, applicants’ editors will be contacted.

Successful applicants will be informed of the next step while other applications will be considered for the next quarter.

Reporting is to commence on Thursday, October 1, 2020 and successful applicants will receive the grant in two halves: at the beginning of the quarter you are awarded the grant and when the story is published.
