DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 15, 2020 – All journalists in Nigeria can apply for the International Organization for Migration (IOM)’s Migration Reporter Competition.
Interested participants da apply by sending previously unpublished or published materials to compete for the grand prize of N300,000 (three hundred thousand naira), and a laptop.
Interested applicants can apply for three categories namely;
- Video and Photo: a short documentary (min. 5-10 minutes minimum and max. 15 minutes) or a photo series (5-15 photos) with captions in English providing a short description of the photo, location, credit and date.
- Radio: an audio reportage (min. 5 minutes and max. 10 minutes) or a coherent series of short reports (3-5 episodes of max. 5 minutes).
- Print/online: a written article of minimum 1,500 words.
The jury will select three winners under each category who will be announced on all IOM media platforms and will receive the following prizes:
- First prize: NGN 300,000 and a laptop.
- 2nd prize: NGN 150,000.
- 3rd prize: NGN 100,000.
Submitted entries will be evaluated by an independent jury and the selection will be based on the potential to have an impact on the audience as well as their creativity and demonstrated knowledge of subject matter, data and terminology.
Other criteria include accuracy and balance, demonstrated focus on protection of victims of trafficking, and positive portrayal of safe migration pathways.
All entries must be in English, and where other languages (Pidgin, Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo) are used, the entries shall be accompanied by a translation in English.
Additionally, entries submitted with photos or videos of individuals shall be accompanied by the respective informed consent forms.
In the case of children, consent forms signed by parents or guardians must be submitted.
Stories on victims of trafficking where the individual can be identified, either by their names or likeness, will be disqualified.
IOM will only consider original works that have not been previously published in print, digital or online publications.
All entries must be submitted on or before 15 November (11:59pm WAT).
