Training

Apply to Thomson Foundation to report illicit finance in Africa

DEADLINE: OCTOBER 8, 2020 ― The Thomson Reuters Foundation is looking for fluent English-speaking African journalists to partake in an intensive online training initiative that will develop their ability to report on illicit finance in Africa.

The project is in partnership with The African Centre for Media Excellence.

The training, covering illicit financial flows, reporting on companies, accounts and budgets, and investigative techniques, will take place online between October 12 – November 6, 2020.

Selected journalists will later be invited to take part in a mentoring support scheme that will help produce stories on illicit finance.

We are looking for journalists/freelancers with:

  • at least two years of professional experience, who work for one or more African media organisations
  • access to minimum internet speed of 1 MB/second
  • fluent English
  • availability to attend three live 90-minute video sessions and do a few hours of self-paced work each week of the course.

It is an advantage if you are familiar with investigative journalism, reporting on finances and/or dealing with numbers more generally, but if you have a strong motivation to learn about and understand these issues then we will consider your application. Early-career journalists are invited to apply.
