The National Union of Campus Journalists, Nigeria (NUCJ) is set to train members of the union in the South-West on fact-checking and data journalism.
The training which is part of the annual three days convention of the region, this year’s convention will focus on “Nexus Between Campus Journalists and Students’ Unionism.”
The convention will hold at the Federal University of Technology, Akure Ondo State between November 28th and December 1st.
Mojeed Alabi who is the Deputy Head of the Investigative Desk at Premium Times is billed to speak on the theme of the convention.
Also, fellows with Dubawa, Nigeria’s first fact-checking platform, Ibrahim Alawode and Niyi Oyedeji will further train the campus journalists on fact-checking and data journalism.
According to a release signed by the Regional Secretary of the union, Hassan Abdulsalam, NUCJ is ready to equip her members with modern training in journalism.

He said further that it is the duty of campus journalists to hold the school management accountable and to fact check information before dissemination.
The release reads in part: “We are happy to inform all campus journalists in Southwest that the region is set to hold her annual regional convention.
“This year convention will be focusing on the Nexus Between Campus Journalism and Students’ Unionism and Mr Mojeed Alabi will do justice to the theme.
“Also, we will be having fellows from Dubawa to facilitate all delegates present at the convention on fact-checking and data journalism
“Our duties are to checkmate, serve as a watchdog to the school management and students union.”
