On Spec calls for podcast pitches on disinformation, fake news

DEADLINE: AUGUST 15, 2020 ― Funded by the National Geographic Society and others, On Spec is calling on independent journalists to submit podcast pitches which seek to explore how disinformation and fake news impact ordinary people’s lives.

The project which is in its third season will showcase how disinformation, misinformation and fake news hurt the low-income and marginalized communities in dramatic ways.

On Spec is looking for stories related to climate change, the novel coronavirus, and women’s rights that will be done from the field with in-person interviews (or in the safest way possible considering the pandemic).

On Spec will commission three, 30-minute, character-driven, sound-rich audio stories where the reporter has a personal connection to the topic.

Applicants are expected from countries of the world aside Hong Kong, India, Russia and Turkey which have benefited from the previous calls.

On Spec will award each successful story with $1,000 which will cover the expenses of carrying out the project.

Interested applicants are to submit a 250-word pitch on/before August 15.
