Residency programme for African writers

DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 30, 2022 — Established African writers can apply for a residency programme to produce a piece of work that celebrates the unity and potential of Africa.

The writing residency programme is facilitated by the African Union Commission, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Africa No Filter and the Library Of Africa and The African Diaspora (LOATAD) to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding of the African Union (AU).

Five African writers are invited to interpret the theme “Our Africa, Our Future,” in a broad and expansive way across a selected genre, including fiction, narrative non-fiction and poetry.

The work will be published in an e-book anthology to be released in early 2023.

The residency will take the form of a hybrid programme, with two online meetings in November 2022 and a two-week physical residency at LOATAD in Accra, Ghana in November 2022.

Writers will receive payment for all travel costs to, from and within Ghana; accommodation and board at LOATAD in Ghana; access to the library’s extensive resources; trips to relevant places of interest while in Ghana; and a stipend of US$1,000.

The deadline for applications is September 30, 2022.
