VACANCY: Africa Check is looking for freelance fact-checkers

DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 30, 2020 ― Africa Check, Africa’s first fact-checking and verification platform is looking to engage the services of experienced freelance fact-checkers (journalists and researchers).

These freelance fact-checkers are to identify dubious and potentially harmful claims made and published on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.

The freelance fact-checkers will then research each claim to determine its veracity using online resources and by consulting experts, and write a brief high-quality report on their findings

Application requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Three years’ experience in fact-related fields such as media, research and academia.
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to explain complex issues in simple language.
  • Ability to work at speed to tackle claims as they go viral on social media.
  • Strong numeracy, analytical and research skills.
  • Well-honed nonsense detector
  • Passion for news.
  • Ability to think and act impartially
  • Attention to detail
  • Resilient self-starter who takes ownership of their work while collaborating with a larger team.
  • Fluency in an African language and/or French would be advantageous, as would be experience in working across diverse geographies and cultures.
