DEADLINE: MAY 26, 2025 — The Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), in partnership with the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos, invites applications for the Adejumobi Adegbite Fellowship for Young Journalists.
The fellowship is a one-year programme established in memory of Adejumobi Adegbite, the late journalist and U.S. Consulate Information Specialist who passed away in July 2023.
The fellowship is open to early-career Nigerian journalists with less than five years of post-NYSC work experience. It is designed to support emerging reporters with a keen interest in investigative, multimedia and data-driven journalism.
Applicants must be active journalists permanently resident in Nigeria and must not have participated in any U.S. government exchange programme. The fellowship welcomes applications from full-time, part-time, freelance, and intern journalists. Those who were denied NYSC for unfair reasons, such as being rusticated for campus journalism, may still apply, but their final year will be considered their pre-NYSC experience.
To apply, each journalist must submit two investigative stories published within the 24 months preceding the deadline. Applicants must also include a personal statement of not more than 1000 words explaining their motivation for pursuing journalism and how the fellowship will support their career goals, along with a current curriculum vitae.
The deadline for submission is May 26, 2025.
