Fund for Investigative Journalism offering grants to journalists, media outlets

DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 14, 2026 — Freelance journalists, staff reporters and media outlets can apply for grants at the Fund for Investigative Journalism to produce impactful investigations.

The Fund for Investigative Journalism offers the following category of grants: regular, seed funding, follow-up and Alicia Patterson Fellowships.

While regular grants provide up to $10,000, seed funding are small grants, up to $2,500, for preliminary reporting that can lead to full investigations. Those who have previously received Seed funding can also apply for regular grants.

For follow-up grants, the organisation accepts proposals for timely follow-up coverage to original investigations that were produced with grants from the Fund. Grantees can apply for grants up to $2,500 under this category.

Fellows who apply for the Alicia Patterson Fellowships are awarded $40,000 for a 12-month grant or $20,000 for a six-month grant.

The deadline to apply for regular grants and seed funding is is September 14, 2026.
