Reporters who want to produce high-quality, unbiased, nonpartisan and impactful investigative stories can apply for grants at the Fund for Investigative Journalism.
Freelance journalists, staff reporters and media outlets can apply for these grants for their investigations, which can be for print, online or broadcast stories, books, documentaries or podcasts.
The Fund for Investigative Journalism provides different types of grants, including regular, seed funding, expedited, follow-up and emergency grants.
Regular grants are up to $10,000 while seed funding is up to $2,500. Follow-up grants may be up to $2,500. Emergency grants are for stories that expose wrongdoing related to threats to democracy in the U.S. and reporters may get up to $10,000. Expedited grants are reviewed on a rolling basis.
The next deadline for regular grants is September 9, 2024, while that for seed funding is September 20, 2024.
