Nigerian journalist, five others selected for Climate Tracker’s food, farming, and climate reporting fellowship

Climate Tracker, an international non-profit organization, aiming to support, train and incentivise better climate journalism globally has selected six journalists to report agriculture, food security, and climate change in their countries.

Their reports during the fellowship will focus on the local/national Fork to Farm Dialogue events in their countries that are linked to the Glasgow Process.

Climate Tracker in a blog post stated that with COP26, set to take place in Glasgow in November 2021, the fellowship offers a key opportunity to spread awareness and build a social movement around the need to integrate just and sustainable food policies within national climate action plans.

The reporting fellowship facilitated by Climate Tracker is sponsored by Nourish Scotland, a UK-based non governmental organisation focusing on food policy and practice.

This group of six international early-career journalism were selected and will report from their bases in Oyo State, Nigeria; Jayapura, Indonesia; Mexico City, Mexico; Quito, Ecuador; Kenya (coastal, border with Tanzania & highlands) and Tanzania (Dodoma, Babate and Songea).

Those selected include Ifedayo Ogunyemi, a senior reporter and fact checker with the Nigerian Tribune, the country’s oldest surviving newspaper; Hartatik, a journalist working at Suara Merdeka, the largest newspaper in Central Java, based in Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia; Itzel Gomez, the co-creator of the Science Journalism Laboratory (LabPdC in Spanish) at UNAM and member of the Mexican Science Journalists Network.
