Safe Haven Fellowship seeks applications from researchers, journalists, artists

DEADLINE: DECEMBER 14, 2026 — The Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) is accepting applications for the 2027-2028 session of its Safe Haven Fellowship.

The NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship Programme provides five-month fellowships for at-risk scholarly researchers and literary, journalistic, and artistic researchers at NIAS in Amsterdam each academic semester.

The fellowship provides selected fellows with a €3,500 monthly stipend, subsidised accommodation or commuting expenses, an office and research facilities, and reimbursement for outward and return travel.

Applicants for journalistic, literary or artistic research must hold at least a bachelor’s degree and have a minimum of seven years of professional experience in their field, while scholarly applicants must hold a PhD and have at least three years of postdoctoral research experience.

The deadline for applications is December 14, 2026.
