DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 4, 2020 ― Ahead of the African Investigative Journalism Conference (AIJC), Wits Journalism, the Journalism Department of the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg is offering grants to enable investigative journalism in Africa.
Interested applicants must have a compelling story they want to do but are challenged by either time or resources.
Investigative story ideas that relate to health/science issues, exposé of pandemic-related scams, corruption & wrongdoing and any interesting & important story will be funded.
Applicants are to submit their CV, references, expression of interest from publisher/broadcaster, copy of passport/ID (certified), copies of some previous work and a budget proposal.
If this application is from more than one person, applicants must email a document with a full list of all the details (name, address, organisation/employer, email, phone, ID copy, CV, references) for each member of the group to Wits Journalism.
If it is on behalf of an organisation, applicants must provide full details of the organisation, including an outline of its status, goals and previous works.
Selections for grants are made by a panel of independent journalists and their decisions are final.
Selected journalists, groups or organisations will hold copyright on the work while AIJC retains the right to reproduce it for marketing and publicity purposes. The authors will be duly acknowledged at all times.
