The Stanley Center for Peace and Security is organising a multimedia project that examines how the Coronavirus pandemic and government responses can either mitigate or contribute to risk factors for atrocities.
Freelance journalists, photographers and authors can apply for this project.
The organizers are looking for investigative or commentary pieces between 800 and 1,500 words. Photo essays may not follow these word requirements.
Pitches should use the UN’s Framework of Analysis for Atrocity Crimes and Alex Bellamy’s five factors for strengthening resilience as lenses of analysis.
Authors from underrepresented groups or regions are encouraged to apply.
Accepted submissions will be paid a competitive rate.
The center will reimburse reasonable expenses incurred for necessary travel related to reporting or research.
EDITOR’s NOTE: This opportunity is no longer accepting applications.
