BAOBAB offers media fellowship in SGBV reporting

DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 30, 2023 — Baobab for Women Human Rights (BAOBAB) seeks applications for its inaugural media fellowship in SGBV Reporting.

The SGBV reporting fellowship is aimed at supporting journalists to deepen advocacy to end sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Nigeria.

The Fellowship will enable journalists to produce stories about how critical actors, state and non-state, communities and individuals are solving social problems related to SGBV, as well as how to sustain actions for eliminating SGBV in Nigeria.

This inaugural edition is open to journalists in three focal states of Bauchi, Jigawa and Kano.

The project is open to reporters, photographers, radio/audio journalists, television/video journalists, documentary filmmakers and freelance journalists.

The reports could be done in English or in local languages in their respective states.

Successful pitches will receive a modest stipend to produce the stories within days from the day of commissioning.

The Fellows will be trained for one day to bring them up to speed on SGBV issues, intervention strategies and achievements, after which they will start working on their projects.

Interested and qualified media practitioners should send the following information to mediafellowship.baobab@gmail.com:

A) a pitch of three paragraphs describing the project they plan to work on.
B) A short bio of not more than 200 words.
C) A letter from their supervisor endorsing the application and expressing commitment to the reports. Freelance journalists should secure consent of the medium in which they plan to publish their work.
D) Links to two samples of their previous work.

The deadline for applications is November 30, 2023.
