Fellowship for stories on illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing

DEADLINE: OCTOBER 20, 2022 — Data and investigative journalists interested in uncovering illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing can apply for this environmental journalism fellowship.

Fellows will use data, visualisations, digital cartography and satellite imagery analysis to produce investigative reports that promote fisheries transparency to help the the Gulf of Guinea address IUU fishing in its marine waters.

The fellowship is part of the joint initiative between Code for Africa (CfA) and GRID-Arendal to build upon the strong political will, demonstrated by the government of Guinea in recent years to reinforce the fisheries sector governance and intensify the fight against IUU fishing.

For the five-month fellowship, fellows will receive a stipend of up to USD 2,250.

Applicants must be established investigative data journalists with a minimum track record of two years of producing hard-hitting journalism and reportage.

Applicants must be based in West Africa, preferably in Guinea.

The deadline for submissions is October 20, 2022.
