Foundation set to train indigent journalists in Lagos

A foundation has been set up by the retired Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Folarin Adeyemi to train indigent journalists.

Adeyemi announced the setting up of the Fola Adeyemi Foundation on Monday at his 60th birthday and retirement from the state civil service held at the Grandeur Event Centre, Ikeja on Monday.

He said the foundation is his way of giving back to the society and journalism, which according to him was instrumental to his rise and successes.

Adeyemi made an instant donation into the foundation and promised that he would be making a yearly donation to the foundation to make sure that indigent journalists got the required training to excel in their work.

On the board of the foundation are representatives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and National Association of Journalists (NAWOJ).

The retired permanent secretary also presented his book titled: The Dynamics of Public Information Management: Memoirs of A Veteran Public Affairs Manager.

He said the proceeds from the book would go to the NAWOJ.

Adeyemi who started his journalism career in Radio Nigeria was also a staff of the defunct Daily Times before joining the civil service as public affairs officer.
