Multinational TV and print media hiring Bureau Chief in Nigeria

A multinational TV and print media is hiring a Bureau Chief in Nigeria to set up operations in the country.

The principal responsibilities of the Bureau Chief are to:

  • Lead the company’s presence in Nigeria acting as the eyes and ears of the channel as well as the editorial leader of the Nigeria bureau.
  • Lead the team in Nigeria to ensure best possible coverage from Nigeria both for
    business news and stock exchanges.
  • Help establish the bureau including but not limited to the location, leases, fit
    outs and other administrative requirements for setting up the bureau.
  • Recruit the bureau staff within recruitment policy guidelines and budgets and will work closely with the Manager Finance and Manager HR for the same.
  • Assist Head of programming for training of programming staff and in other international bureaus as required from time to time.
  • Develop programming grid requirements with Head of Programming and deliver
    programmes on a daily and weekly basis as required.
  • Provide insight to COO and Head of programming on events and other market information that would enhance reports from Nigeria.
  • Produce daily news packages, source guests, conduct interviews, and assist the company’s team in all aspects of coverage of local news in Nigeria.
  • Ensure that the bureau adheres to the standards set out by the company in
    style, presentation, and coverage.
  • Implement any other policy decisions made by the Head of Programming with
    regards to coverage.
  • Act as a conduit for news ensuring that the company’s coverage of Nigeria is
    second-to-none, while mindful of the needs of the rest of the channel/other
    bureaus.
  • Coordinate all activities with the Executive Producers
  • Identify and manage relationships with third party service providers of facilities and services to the bureau.
  • Establish and maintain all necessary contacts in Nigeria for the benefit of the
    channel.
  • Ensure the upholding of the company’s standards in public contact, presentation and image.
  • Remain sensitive to managing
    public relations for the company in Nigeria, as a representative of the company.
  • Liaise with the Marketing function for any public relations related requests and queries.
  • Keep the company updated on the latest developments in the Nigeria that may be of interest or may have an impact on the company.
  • Arrange for meetings between the company’s staff and key figures in Nigeria.
  • Provide support to the HR Department in employment related matters for the team in Nigeria.
  • Ensure the implementation of the Employment Policy and various other
    guidelines issued from time to time.
  • Ensure the continuous focus on implementation of set standards and news policy by continually mentoring and training staff.
  • Identify learning and development needs of the bureau team.
  • Build relationships with financial institutions and other corporates and facilitate high profile individuals as guests for interviews.
  • Facilitate external communication strategy i.e. press releases, advertising or marketing campaigns and events, event hosting and event sponsoring provided by Manager Marketing after approval from COO.
  • Ensure oo public statements are
    issued without written approval from COO.
  • Assist with the company’s participation at events and conferences in Nigeria.
  • Update knowledge and skills on an ongoing basis.
  • Set targets and standards of performance for team members.
  • Manage the performance of individual members of the team.
  • Keep abreast of the latest events and business news in the region and the
    world.
