DEADLINE: JULY 12, 2026 — Journalists and media creators worldwide are invited to apply for grants of between $1,000 and $20,000 to support original reporting on artificial intelligence and its impacts.
The grant programme, offered by Tarbell Centre, supports rigorous, independent journalism that scrutinises the companies developing AI technologies, the policymakers regulating them and the real-world effects of increasingly influential AI systems.
This funding for AI reporting seeks projects in six key areas: accountability reporting on frontier AI companies; AI policy and politics; AI explainers and analysis; AI in government and militaries; AI labour impacts; and AI developments in China.
Tarbell looks to fund journalists with a track record of impressive reporting, those who have written at least one piece like the original journalism they’re proposing, whether that’s an ambitious investigation or a captivating explainer.
The deadline for applications is July 12, 2026.
