Apply for Basic Education Reform Media Fellowship 2020 (Stipend Provided)

DEADLINE: SUNDAY, MARCH 15, 2020 ― The YouthHubAfrica Basic Education Reform Media Fellowship 2020 is designed to equip media personnel with the skills and knowledge needed to understand the Basic Education Amendment Act advocacy so as to provide for ambitious coverage of critical issues related to girl-child education in Nigeria.

The media fellowship is open to media professionals all over Nigeria to expose them to various loopholes in the UBE (2004) Act and the various disadvantages of the current Act to girl child education in the country. At the end of the one-day training, journalists would become Basic Education Reform media fellows and partners in the advocacy to realise the review and subsequent passage of a new UBE Act.

The Compulsory, Free Universal Basic Education Act, 2004 provides for compulsory, free universal basic education for all children of primary and junior secondary school age in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It further seeks to provide punishment for parents for failing to comply with its provisions. However, many girls are still left uneducated beyond the first 9 years, this is why YouthHubAfrica and partners are building committed and passionate media Fellows to work together to highlight issues around girls’ education and build pressure on the government to pass the UBE Amendment Act.
