
DEADLINE: ROLLING — The New York Times is hiring a West Africa Correspondent, based in Dakar, Senegal, or within the region, to cover politics, culture, security, and social transformations across West Africa.
This role offers a rare chance to join a globally respected newsroom and report on a region undergoing rapid change—from geopolitical shifts to demographic trends, economic challenges, and cultural resurgence.
They will produce breaking news, features, analyses, and deep-dive storytelling across multiple media platforms.
Applicants should have proven international reporting experience, fluency in English (French is a plus), expertise in navigating high-risk environments, and the ability to balance rapid news coverage with ambitious feature work. Strong skills in sourcing, story development, collaboration with local stringers, and multimedia storytelling are essential.
Responsibilities include live coverage, feature storytelling, network building across West Africa, and cross-disciplinary collaboration across photo, video, and audio teams.
