The Republic is hiring a news editor

DEADLINE: JUNE 30, 2025 — The Republic is hiring a sharp and creative News Editor to oversee an experimental programme for an initial period of three months.

For this role, the News Editor will get N250,000-N400,000 monthly, depending on experience and proven sales track record.

The hiring organisation is a journalism company committed to uncovering and advancing Africa’s most compelling stories.

The News Editor will guide the development of RPUBLC News, the Republic’s new social-first vertical, revamp the opinion and analysis offerings, manage a network of freelance writers, photographers, and videographers across Africa and the diaspora, coordinating the production of urgent and viral stories that uphold our editorial standards and global mission.

The role is part-time (20 hours per week) and fully remote. The editor may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

Applicants could be journalists or editors with four to six+ years of experience in news, commentary, or digital storytelling.

A Bachelor’s degree in politics, international affairs, social sciences or a related field is required.

  • Strong portfolio of social-first explainers or news summaries
  • Reliable Network of high-performing Africa-based and diaspora freelancers
  • Proficiency with tools like Canva, CapCut, Adobe Premiere, or similar
  • Experience working in a fast-paced or startup media environment
