34th DAME Awards seek entries in 25 categories

DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 17, 2025 — The Trustees of the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) Trust Fund have announced the call for entries for the 34th edition of DAME.

The awards, first held in 1992, recognises and celebrates outstanding professionalism in Nigerian media.

This year’s edition will honour works published in 2024 across 25 competitive categories (listed below), ranging from reporting and commentary to aesthetics and overall performance.

• Reporting (12 subcategories): Business, Child-Friendly Reporting, Education, Energy, Health, Investigative, Judicial, Lagos, Nutrition, Radio, Solid Minerals, Sports, and Television Reporting
• Commentary (3 subcategories): Editorial Cartooning, Editorial Writing, and Informed Commentary
• Documentary & Drama (3 subcategories): Radio Drama, Television Drama, and Television Documentary
• Aesthetics (4 subcategories): Best Designed Newspaper, Best Media Website, Child-Friendly Photography, and News Photography
• Overall Awards (3 subcategories): Child-Friendly Medium, Newspaper of the Year, and Editor of the Year

Reporting entries must be works produced and published in 2024 and will be assessed using DAME’s ABCADER principle: Accuracy, Balance, Contextual Analysis, Depth of Research/Investigation, Engaging Language, and Relevance.

Commentary entries will be judged on Subject, Substance, Significance, Structure, Style, and Size

Each entry must be submitted under one category only; a series will count as one entry

Entrants may submit no more than two entries per category

Any published rejoinders, corrections, or retractions affecting credibility must be disclosed in the cover letter
