CJID 2026 Excellence in Journalism Awards open for submissions

DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 12, 2026 — Journalists are invited to submit their outstanding work for the 2026 Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) Excellence in Journalism Awards.

The awards recognise exceptional journalism that advances accountability, public interest and sustainable development across West Africa.

Journalists and media organisations in Nigeria, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, Senegal and Ivory Coast can apply.

This year’s categories include Best Health Reporting, Best Climate Change and Environmental Reporting, Best Solutions Journalism, Best Community Reporting, Best Reporting on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, Best Reporting on Social Accountability, Best Reporting on Human Rights and Best Fact-check in West Africa.

Entries must be original works published or broadcast between September 1, 2025 and August 31, 2026.

Each journalist may submit a maximum of two entries overall, with only one entry permitted per category. Entries submitted in previous editions, as well as stories funded or supported by CJID/DUBAWA, are not eligible.

The deadline for applications is September 12, 2026.
