Rufus Giwa Poly wins Otufodunrin Media Quiz Competition

The Mass Communication Department of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State has emerged winner of the first edition of the Otufodunrin Mass Communication Quiz Competition.

The outcome of the competition was announced in a statement by the Coordinator, Dayo Emmanuel on Wednesday, August 28, 2019.

The department bagged the first position out of eight institutions which participated with 18 points score out of 20 questions from 40 on various aspects of Mass Communication answered during the event in each institution.

The University of Lagos, (UNILAG), Nigerian Institute of Journalism, (NIJ), and Lagos State Polytechnic, (LASPOECH), tied in the second position scoring 16 points each.

Other institutions that participated in the competition included Adekunle Ajasin University, Akangba-Akoko, Ondo State, Bayero University, Kano, Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos and Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State.

Rufus Giwa Polytechnic will get a laptop as first prize, while the three runners up institutions will get other gadgets and resources.

The competition marked the 55th birthday of Executive Director, Media Career Development Network, and former Editor, Online and Special Publication of The Nation newspaper, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin.

Otufodunrin who commended institutions and students that participated in the competition explained that it was meant to enhance the knowledge of the students about the industry.

“The students need to know more about the people and institutions in the industry and have practical knowledge of issues in print, broadcast, public relations, advertising and the new media. I am glad that the students actively participated and were enthusiastic to know more.”

He also thanked heads of the participating departments for their support for the competition.

Otufodunrin promised that the next edition will be improved on based on the lessons learnt from the inaugural edition.
